You are a dawg. In a spaceship. These annoying aliens are spoiling all the fun. Or perhaps they are the source of the fun?

A theoretically endless survival bullet hell space shooter, made in about 7 days for #MadeWithDefold Jam 2023

Aliens' sprites are heavily inspired by the Lazy Devs youtube channel series of making a shmup in pico-8 — https://youtu.be/sAb9hSRVWCk?t=535

These graphics were made before the jam for my unfinished (and tbh barely started) attempt to follow the shmup series in tic-80 engine.

All other graphics are made during the jam in Aseprite. Muzzle flash animation is inspired by this Lazy Devs video, as well as the exhaust animation.

Music and sounds were made during the jam. I started with placeholder sounds generated in sfxr, some of them remained in the edited/remixed/layered form. I think the sound of the weapon pickup is the one that I haven't touched at all. I use Bitwig for music and sound design.

This is my first game made in Defold. I have been wanting to try it for a long time, and this jam was a great opportunity to finally do it. I finished built-in tutorials before the jam, but as the jam started it became obvious that these were not enough :) So the first days I mostly studied sources of Ben James' games trying to understand how the engine works and trying to apply ideas from Lazy Devs tutorials to Defold. At some point something clicked in me, and I kinda started to understand all the messaging thing, and how game objects and components and factories are related, and the work went much faster.  Definitely will make more Defold games!
